Dental veneers in Rabat
A veneer is a thin shell bonded to the visible surface of a tooth, to change its shape or shade. It is decided on after an examination and, in most cases, after a trial of the result.
Dr Morabit sees patients by appointment at the practice in Rabat.
Ceramic or composite
Ceramic veneers are made by a dental laboratory. They keep their shade over time and generally require two sessions or more.
Composite veneers are shaped directly on the tooth. They are simpler to make and to touch up, but they stain and wear more quickly.
Who is it for?
- A discoloured tooth that whitening does not lighten.
- A chipped or worn tooth, or one with an irregular shape.
- Small gaps between the front teeth.
Veneers do not replace a missing tooth and are not suitable for a badly damaged tooth: a crown is then more appropriate.
What you can expect
Teeth whose shape, length or shade is corrected, in keeping with your proportions. The trial in the mouth lets you judge the project before any preparation.
Day to day, you brush a veneer like a tooth. It calls for a few precautions: avoid biting on hard objects and report a chip or a loose piece without delay.
The steps
- Consultation. An examination, photos and a discussion of what you would like to change. Any care needed is identified.
- Written plan and estimate. The material, the number of veneers and the planned sessions, before any decision.
- Trial. A trial in the mouth shows the proposed shape before any preparation.
- Preparation. The tooth is prepared, often only lightly, then an impression is taken.
- Fitting. The veneer is tried in, adjusted and then bonded.
- Check-up. A visit checks the gum, the edges and your bite.
Depending on the case, treatment takes from a few days to a few weeks.
The alternatives
- Whitening, if only the shade bothers you and the teeth are healthy.
- A composite touch-up for a small chip or an irregular shape.
- Aligners, if the problem comes mainly from the position of the teeth.
- A crown, if the tooth is badly damaged or root-treated.
Limits and precautions
- Preparing the tooth is usually irreversible.
- A veneer can crack or come loose, especially if you clench your teeth.
- Temporary sensitivity is possible after fitting.
- No lifespan is guaranteed: it depends on hygiene, habits and check-ups.
Care and follow-up
Gentle brushing, cleaning between the teeth and regular check-ups. Composite veneers may need polishing or a touch-up over time. If you clench your teeth at night, a protective night guard may be advised.
Cost
It depends on the number of veneers and the material. It is given to you in writing after the consultation.
Frequently asked questions
Do veneers damage the teeth?
Preparation removes a thin layer of enamel; it is usually irreversible. That is why the indication and the trial come before any decision.
Can I have just one veneer?
Yes, if only one tooth is concerned. The challenge is then to match the shade with the neighbouring teeth; the trial is used to check this.
Veneers and whitening?
If whitening is planned, it is done first: the shade of the veneers is chosen afterwards.
Can I eat normally with veneers?
Yes, with a few precautions: avoid biting very hard foods with your front teeth and biting on objects.
A clinical consultation is needed to determine whether this treatment is right for you.
