Dental implants in Rabat
Replacing a missing tooth with an implant starts with a consultation: an examination, imaging if needed, then a written plan and estimate before any decision.

What is a dental implant?
An implant is a small artificial root, usually made of titanium, placed in the jawbone. It then carries a crown, a bridge or a denture. It replaces one or more teeth without touching the neighbouring teeth.
Treatment takes place in stages: a surgical phase, when the implant is placed, then a prosthetic phase, when the tooth is fixed once the bone has healed. A healing period is needed in between.
Who is it for?
- A lost tooth, or one that needs extracting, that you would like to replace with a fixed tooth.
- Several missing teeth, to carry a bridge without touching the neighbouring teeth.
- A removable denture that moves and that you would like to stabilise.
The amount of bone, the condition of the gums, your general health or smoking may call for preparation, or for a different treatment choice.
What you can expect
A fixed tooth
The tooth fitted on the implant does not come out. You brush and clean it like a natural tooth.
Chewing more easily
Once healing is complete and the final tooth is in place, chewing on that side usually becomes more comfortable again.
Sparing the neighbouring teeth
Unlike a bridge, an implant does not require the teeth on either side of the gap to be prepared.
Treatment in stages
You need to allow for a schedule of several weeks to a few months depending on the case, and regular check-ups afterwards.
During the consultation
- A review of your general health, your medication and your habits (smoking, clenching your teeth).
- An examination of the gap to be filled, the neighbouring teeth, the gums and your bite.
- An X-ray, and 3D imaging if needed, to assess the available bone.
- The possible solutions for your case, implant or not, with their advantages and their limits.
- A written plan and estimate, to read through calmly before you decide.
The steps of treatment
- Consultation and examination. The dentist listens to your request, examines your mouth and checks your general health and current medication.
- Imaging. An X-ray, and sometimes a 3D scan, shows the available bone and the nearby structures.
- Written treatment plan and estimate. You receive the steps, how long they take and their cost before any decision.
- Placing the implant. Under local anaesthesia, usually in a single session. Preparation (an extraction, a bone graft) may be needed first.
- Healing. The implant bonds with the bone, generally over several weeks to a few months depending on the case. A temporary tooth may be planned.
- Crown. The final tooth, made by a dental laboratory, is fixed onto the implant.
- Check-ups. Follow-up visits check the implant, the gum and your bite.
After placement: the first few days
- Some discomfort, swelling or slight bleeding is possible in the first few days.
- The dentist gives you written instructions: diet, hygiene, any medication.
- Avoiding smoking is advised, as it slows healing.
- Contact the practice if the pain gets worse instead of easing, if the swelling spreads or if you have a fever.
The other solutions
| What it is | Good to know | |
|---|---|---|
| Bridge | A fixed tooth that rests on the neighbouring teeth. | The neighbouring teeth are prepared. |
| Removable denture | An appliance you take out to clean. | Less costly; less stable. |
| Not replacing the tooth | Leaving the gap empty. | The neighbouring teeth may shift over time. |
Limits and precautions
- Like any surgery, placement carries risks (infection, bleeding, discomfort) that the dentist explains to you.
- An implant may fail to bond with the bone; it is then removed and another solution is discussed.
- Smoking and certain poorly controlled conditions increase the risks.
- Over time, the gum and bone around the implant can become inflamed if hygiene and check-ups are not sufficient.
Care and follow-up
You brush an implant like a tooth and clean between the teeth. Regular check-ups make it possible to monitor the gum around the implant.
The dentist tells you how often you need check-ups and scaling, given your situation. If you clench your teeth at night, a protective night guard may be advised to protect the crown.
Cost
The cost depends on your situation: the number of implants, any preparation, the type of crown. It is given to you in writing after the consultation.

Frequently asked questions
Does having an implant placed hurt?
The implant is placed under local anaesthesia. In the days that follow, some discomfort or swelling is possible; the dentist explains what to do and when to get in touch.
How long does treatment take?
It depends on your situation. Between placement and the final crown, healing often takes several weeks to a few months. The schedule is given to you with the treatment plan.
How many appointments should I expect?
Usually: the consultation, the placement, one or two healing check-ups, the impression and the fitting of the crown. Preparation may add more; the treatment plan sets them out.
How long does an implant last?
An implant that is well cared for and checked regularly can last a long time. Its lifespan depends on hygiene, smoking, general health and check-ups: no lifespan is guaranteed.
A clinical consultation is needed to determine whether this treatment is right for you.
