The same discomfort can have several causes, and the same request several answers. A discoloured tooth may call for whitening, a veneer or a crown; a missing tooth for an implant, a bridge or a removable denture. The examination guides the choice, not the other way round.
The dentist presents the options suited to your mouth, including the simplest ones, with their advantages, their limits and their upkeep. The written plan and estimate come next, so that you can decide with peace of mind.
Everyday care and check-ups
Regular check-ups help spot a cavity, wear or a gum problem early, while treatment is still simple. Cavities are treated with a filling, usually tooth-coloured.
The dentist tells you how often you should have a check-up, given your situation.
Scaling and prevention
Scaling removes the tartar that a toothbrush cannot remove. It protects the gums and makes it easier to check the teeth. The practice also gives you advice on brushing and on cleaning between your teeth.
Gums
Gums that bleed or recede, or teeth that move, deserve an examination. Depending on the situation, a deep clean and follow-up are offered; some cases call for a further opinion.
Prostheses
To replace several teeth, there are several solutions: a removable denture, a bridge, or a prosthesis fixed on implants. The dentist presents the ones that suit your case, with their advantages and their limits.
What all treatments have in common
- A consultation and an examination before any proposal.
- An X-ray when it is useful, and possibly 3D imaging for certain treatments.
- A written plan and estimate before any major treatment begins.
- Care under local anaesthesia when the procedure calls for it.
- Clear instructions for the days that follow, and follow-up check-ups.
